Two University of Dundee students have been honoured by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for their outstanding achievements in Biomedical Engineering

Published on 23 September 2025

Mohammad Kouli, BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering graduate, has been awarded the IET Prize 2025. His nomination reflected his consistently exceptional academic performance and dedication throughout his studies.

Ziyu Wang, a student on the Biomedical Engineering Joint Education Programme with Northeastern University in China, received the IET Manufacturing Prize 2025. Her honours project on microneedle fabrication, a rapidly emerging technology with significant potential in healthcare, was recognised for its innovation and excellence.

Both awards are presented annually to students completing IET-accredited courses, based on nominations from their universities. Winners receive a certificate and IET membership, providing access to a global network of engineers and opportunities to further develop professional knowledge and experience.

Dr Markus Pakleppa, Programme Lead for Biomedical Engineering, said:

“We are delighted to see Mohammad and Ziyu recognised by the IET. Their success reflects both the individual dedication of our students and the international strength of our Biomedical Engineering courses, delivered in Dundee and through our partnership with Northeastern University in China. These awards highlight the calibre of our graduates and the impact they will make in the world of healthcare and technology.”

Dundee’s Biomedical Engineering courses continue to equip students with the skills and expertise needed to contribute to advances in health technologies. The recognition of Mohammad and Ziyu by the IET underlines the University’s role in supporting the next generation of engineers and innovators.
