This module provides fundamental learning in social work practice. The content informs much of the thinking and theory around 'how we 'do' social work with a focus on theory, models and methods.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- gain a basic understanding of social work models, methods and their theoretical underpinning
- understand social work methods across the life course
- develop an understanding of the relationship between different social work models and methods, and social justice
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad and integrated knowledge of the main social work practice models with individuals, families and groups
- analyse evidence supporting the use of different interventions with different individuals and in different circumstances.
- articulate the decision-making process used to apply different practice methods to specific case scenarios
- present and debate the benefits and drawbacks of using different models with different service user groups and/or problems
- articulate the ethical and professional issues within each practice model with particular reference to anti-oppressive practice and social justice
- understand that intervention happens in partnership with service users
