Study the globalising processes influencing citizenship, focusing on health and its global context, and the interconnectedness of nations and individuals
This module will teach you how globalising processes influence health and wellbeing.
It specifically focuses on health and its broader global context. This covers interconnectedness and interdependence of nations, communities and individuals. It also explores how these dynamics influence outcomes.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- understand the concept of global citizenship and health in the 21st century
- study the key factors influencing Global Citizenship and wellbeing
- explore the origins of health and factors that support human health and wellbeing
- study asset-based approaches to community health
- explore the impact of digital technology on global health and wellbeing
At the end of the module, you will be able to:
- describe the concept and perspectives of Global Citizenship and health
- identify key factors that influence the wellbeing of individuals as global citizens and their communities
- recognise health assets at individual, community, and global levels
- describe approaches to promoting health and wellbeing
- interpret contemporary global issues from a Global Citizenship perspective
Assignments / assessment
- reflective essay 700 words (70%)
- write an essay on one of the following topics: Global Citizenship, health, well-being, or community asset for health
- identify and reflect on a key factor that impacts individuals and their communities
- use of a reflective model (not necessary but is encouraged)
- support the essay with a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles
- It is recommended that students write in the first person.
- computer-based multiple choice test (30%)
You are expected to pass both assessments.
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
This module is delivered in-person and online, using a blend of scheduled and on-demand teaching sessions.
- Introduction to Global Citizenship, what being a global citizen means, and how you view your place in the world
- Introduction to issues related to health, from individual, national, and global perspectives
- Introduction and examining the concept of wellbeing from a range of perspectives, and how this relates to health
- Introduction and exploration of the impact of technology on health and wellbeing across the globe
PowerPoints and online material will be available to support students. There are numerous texts available via the online library that are recommended to support and complement students learning.
