Advanced Maths (Summer School) module (SS03010)
Learn mathematical skills in algebra and trigonometry. This will be in preparation for subjects in engineering and science studied at the University
The module will focus on basic algebra and trigonometry. A sound knowledge of mathematics is essential in many subjects. This is particularly true in all branches of engineering and science studied at university. It is also useful in other subjects, such as Accountancy.
By completing this module, you will be able to show your potential. You will be able to cope with university entry-level subject-specific knowledge. You will also be able to show related understanding and subject-specific skills. These are required by undergraduate students.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- study topics in basic algebra, including manipulating algebraic expression and solving algebraic equations
- study topics in trigonometry, including basic trigonometry, solving trigonometric equations, proving trigonometric identities
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- simplify algebraic expressions
- solve algebraic equations
- understand the meaning of trigonometric functions
- solve trigonometric equations
- prove trigonometric identities
- simplify trigonometric expressions
Assignments / assessment
- in-class tests (100%)
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
The module is held over a four-week period. You will attend class on-campus. Module materials are provided through My Dundee. This is the University’s virtual learning environment.
