Develop your critical engagement with leadership theory. You will also develop with both the domestic and international educational policy context
This is the first of two SCQF level 11 modules in the Into Headship Programme. This is a professional programme for aspiring headteachers and school leaders in Scotland. This will lead to a PG Certificate into Headship and to attaining the Standard for Headship.
This programme is in partnership with Education Scotland's Professional Learning and Leadership Directorate (EDSPLL). It is funded by the Scottish Government.
To apply for a place at the University of Dundee on this programme you must be employed by either:
- Angus Council
- Dundee City Council
- Perth and Kinross Council
You will also have to successfully complete your local authority’s application process.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- critically explore the local, national, and global policy context
- critically engage with leadership and management practices. These will be informed and critiqued through engagement with research and academic literature.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- identify and frame a strategic educational issue. This will lead to the development of an educational argument for improvement. This issue is determined based on evidence. This evidence is gathered from a situational analysis of your educational context. This will be in tandem with an understanding of the wider local, national, and international policy context.
- explore the use of the Standard for Headship as a way of engaging in systematic self-evaluation. It will also support the planning of ongoing professional learning.
