Clinical statistics is the branch of statistics applied to medical and health research. It aids the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical trials and observational studies. It ensures that medical research is scientifically valid, reliable, and ethical.

This module introduces you to the terminology and concepts of basic statistics. It also teaches you how to apply and interpret the results.

You'll learn statistical procedures for use with routine observational data using R studio. You'll develop skills in understanding statistical issues in clinical trials. You also learn how to analyse and report results.

What you will learn

In this module, you'll learn about:

  • statistical methods in clinical embryology
  • data handling steps
  • data presentation and visualisation
  • descriptive and inferential statistics
  • analysis of repeatedly measured data
  • regression modelling and interpretation
  • statistical methods in clinical trials
  • advanced statistical concepts
  • enhanced data visualisation using R Studio.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • show your knowledge of the fundamental principles of statistics
  • reflect on the principles, theories, concepts and practices of advanced statistical methods
  • use and interpret key statistical concepts
  • select and apply appropriate statistical techniques to analyse data
  • adjust for biases and confounding in medical data
