You will learn about the science of the Earth’s water resources and the potential risks that they pose to society. You will explore key geohazards on Earth and how society addresses specific issues of hazard assessment and how to cope with risk.
You will develop a comprehensive knowledge of geohazards in a range of environments and at different timescales. You will be able to interpret these with the contexts of modern societies.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
gain knowledge of the range of adjustments to environmental hazards
learn some of the techniques utilised in hazard and risk assessment
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
understand the key hydrological processes that underpin different water hazards. You will understand how risks associated with these are understood and quantified
synthesise source materials, and apply understanding of process to the needs of society
understand the circumstances by which specific water hazards can be recognised. You will understand what mitigation measures can be put in place
