You will learn more on the role of place and space in the social and cultural construction of childhood(s). You will learn of the ways children and young people use and experience different environments.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • engage with, and critique, the work of geographers and others working with children and youth
  • learn to explain ways in which space, place and environment are used and experienced by children and young people
  • analyse research papers

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • explain the role of space and place in the social and cultural construction of childhood(s). You will be able to apply this to theoretical concepts and practical examples
  • show the diversity of childhood and youth, internationally and at local scale
  • critically evaluate the research process and different methods used in research with young people
  • use empirical evidence, supported by theoretical understanding, to explain the ways in which space, place and the environment are used and experienced by children and young people

    • seminars (20% to include different elements of leading, facilitation and contribution to other seminars)
