​​This 30-credit capstone module brings together the academic knowledge and professional experience you have built across the course.

You will examine engineering projects and decisions in terms of design, sustainable engineering, project planning and management, and professionalism and ethics, producing a 7,000 to 7,500-word written report (70%), a reflective journal documenting your development (10%), and a ten-minute oral presentation (20%).

Work is carried out independently throughout the year, with support from regular meetings between you, your academic adviser, and your workplace mentor.

These structured conversations help you develop your submission, reflect on your learning, and plan for continued professional development beyond the course. 

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will: 

  • ​Examine engineering projects and decisions in terms of design, sustainability, and risk management 
  • ​Evaluate the environmental and societal impact of engineering solutions 
  • ​Apply risk management processes to identify, evaluate, and mitigate project risks 
  • ​Communicate complex engineering analysis effectively to technical and non-technical audiences 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Produce a 7,000-7,500 word written report analysing design, sustainability, and project management 
  • ​Maintain a reflective journal documenting professional learning and development 
  • ​Deliver a ten-minute oral presentation of your work 
  • ​Plan and record self-directed learning as a foundation for lifelong professional development​
