​​Operations Management covers the theory and practice of managing operations.

Topics include operations strategy, process design, facility layout, technology and people in operations, planning and control, capacity and inventory management, lean operations, operations improvement, and quality management.

The module takes a practical approach, giving you tools and frameworks to assess your organisation's operational capabilities and identify opportunities for improvement.

Teaching uses a blended learning approach integrating combined in-class lecture-tutorial sessions with My Dundee resources. Assessment is through a coursework report giving you the opportunity to reflect on operations management practices and their application within your workplace setting. 

What you will learn

  • ​Understand the role of the operations function in contributing to business strategy and competitive advantage 
  • ​Apply operations management best practices across process design, capacity management, lean operations, and quality management 
  • ​Develop and support business efforts towards change management, lean operations, and operations improvement 
  • ​Critically assess organisations' inventory and capacity management capabilities, needs, and requirements 
  • ​Understand how organisations can harness their operational capabilities to support wider organisational strategy
