​​This module develops your understanding of the process and theory of business internationalisation and global trade.

You will study the drivers of international business strategy, the assessment and selection of foreign markets, and the organisational, operational and people management dimensions of internationalisation.

The module also covers global sales, the international monetary system, international trade policy and cooperation, and international trade theory.

Topics include export and foreign direct investment strategies and the role of international trade blocs.

Teaching uses a blended-learning approach integrating combined lecture and tutorial sessions with self-directed learning via My Dundee.

Assessment consists of (1) an individual pre-recorded poster presentation (35%), and (2) a group fictional consultancy report (65%) in which you apply the internationalisation process to a realistic scenario.

This module is delivered as part of a Graduate Apprenticeship, with teaching taking place one day a week on Dundee's City Campus.

  • ​Critically engage in the process of business consultation regarding internationalisation. 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the process of business internationalisation. 
  • ​Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the patterns of global trade and the theories and agreements that underpin this. 
  • ​Guide organisations through the process of internationalisation, particularly in its export and foreign direct investment forms. 
  • ​Critically assess the relative merits of various potential foreign markets. 
  • ​Critically engage in the process of business consultation regarding the internationalisation process

Assignments / assessments

​Pre-recorded Poster – 35% 

  • ​A pre-recorded poster presentation in which students, based on current trends and theory, predict and outline what global trade might look like in the not too distant future. 

​Consultancy Report — 65% 

  • ​A fictional consultancy report in which students apply internationalisation theory and process to a realistic business scenario. 

​This module does not have a final exam.​
