​​This module recognises the learning you have gained through community work practice. By critically reflecting on your experience, you'll build a portfolio that connects your knowledge and skills to the competences of Community Learning and Development. 

​You'll explore theory, models of reflection, and the values of CLD practice as you work through the module. These give you a foundation for reflecting on your practice experience in depth. Academic literature, provided via the VLE, supports your reflective writing throughout. 

​The module is delivered fully online via My Dundee, the University's virtual learning environment. Workshops and webinars give you the chance to connect with peers and tutors throughout.

​​You are expected to be engaged in relevant employment (paid or unpaid) for at least 16 hours per week, for not less than 80 days, while completing this module.​

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will: 

  • ​Reflect on and evaluate your prior professional experience to build a strong portfolio of evidence 
  • ​Integrate literature, theory and concepts into your practice reflection, scaffolding your journey into the Community Development and Youth Work degree 
  • ​Relate your community work practice to the values, ethics, and competences of CLD 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Show the knowledge and skills needed to develop areas within your professional practice 
  • ​Use reflection to improve your professional practice 
  • ​Identify and evaluate significant learning events in your professional life 
  • ​Consider how your knowledge and understanding shapes the way you work​

Assignments / assessments

​​Coursework (Pass/Fail) 

  • ​Reflective portfolio relating to the seven competences of CLD professional practice 
  • ​Statement of support from a line manager, supervisor, or mentor, including a record of practice hours 

​This module does not have a final exam.​
