CM50140
Research in medical education aims to advance knowledge, skills, and professionalism. It does so by understanding and evaluating educational ecosystems.
In this module, you will develop core skills in research design. You will also explore ways to collect data for analysis. There is particular emphasis on balancing the theoretical and practical aspects of medical education research as a health professional educator.
You will develop practical skills and learn about medical education research. You will do this by creating your own research proposal.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- learn about medical education research and the role of theory
- study alternative approaches in modern research design, including systematic and scoping review
- learn key ethical principles in education research and their application to research proposal
- learn the key methods in medical education research. This includes data collection and analysis, for both qualitative and quantitative research
- build a theoretically informed, coherent, and rigorous medical education research proposal
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- summarise medical education research approaches. You will be able to appraise the role of theory within education research
- explore key ethical considerations in medical education research
- evaluate key methods, including data collection and data analysis, in medical education research
- build a theoretically informed, coherent, and rigorous medical education research proposal
Assignments / assessment
- written assessment (100%)
- You will develop a Master’s research proposal. This will outline how you might research an aspect of medical education. This will be relevant to your field or specialism.
This module does not have a final exam.
