Explore the systems that are used in project management, ensuring their success. Learn about potential risks and how to monitor the cost of a project.

This is an interactive module. Working in groups will allow you to explore the types of systems used in different projects, and discuss how they work.

Case studies from industry are shared to learn from their successes and failures. The range of industries shows how project management skills are highly transferable.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • understand risk and uncertainty on projects
  • evaluate the risks on a project
  • use quantitative and qualitative risk assessment tools
  • examine design problems
  • use tools to manage a design team
  • explore the costs and revenues on a project
  • compare the financial performance of different projects
  • evaluate the time value of money.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • create a risk register for a project
  • evaluate and respond to risks on a project
  • use design methods to propose designs for a project
  • use financial tools to evaluate the viability of a project
  • establish the discount rate for a project.

Assignments / assessment:

  • Report - 3,000 words (30%)
  • Final exam (70%)
