This is a reading based module where you study relevant literature and analyse current issues and emerging topics in an area of professional accountancy.

The topic will be selected from the following by your lecturer:

  • Audit, Assurance, and Professional Ethics
  • Tax Compliance and Fiscal Studies
  • Professional Financial Reporting Practice
  • Professional Management Accounting
  • Professional Financial Management
     

What you will learn

In this module you will:

  • read research and technical articles from different aspects of the literature in the selected area
  • analyse current issues and emerging topics in the selected area of professional accountancy

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • gain a deep understanding of the selected accountancy topic
  • critically evaluate research, current issues or developments while synthesising information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understanding 
     
  • apply theory to real-word problems faced by accountants, policy-makers, financial institutions and investors
  • understand the difficulties involved in applying academic theories to real-world accounting and finance
  • manage your time effectively, meet deadlines, and communicate in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • demonstrate the generic skills to produce a coherent written essay that summarises your findings

Assignments / assessment

  • 3,000 word essay (100%)

This module does not have a final exam.
