Comics & Graphic Novels MDes

I enjoy experimenting with different genres and styles using comics to express my interests and sense of humour.

About

My main drive for creating comics is my love of the craft itself because of how versatile it is and how it allows me to tell a story using my art. While I particularly enjoy the Comedy and Horror genres I don't feel confined to any one particular genre or style which allows me to be versatile in the way I express myself in my art. I particularly enjoy the way comics can be used as a form of parody or social commentary and I like to let my own sense of humour come through in my work. My main inspiration for my work this year has been to do with themes of nostalgia and my own hyper fixations as an autistic person in areas such as video games and animals. My final project 'Super Gacha Girl' was inspired by my love of the Magical Girl Manga genre and all it's eccentricities and is a labour of love that I hope to continue past this first volume.

How Snails Get Freaky

A one page comic about snail reproduction that is told in a comedic yet informative way. The snails are drawn in a cute cartoon style and the comic is coloured in bright pinks.

A comic about everything you never wanted to know.

Glyphomon Zine

The image is a flattened version of a foldable booklet. The front and back of the booklet are designed to look like old handheld gameboy consoles. The story inside is told as if you were playing a game called 'Glyphomon' on the console. The art is drawn in a blocky and pixelated style. The story is about a boy called Uno setting out on an adventure to train and battle creatures called Glyphomon that represent different number symbols

A Zine I made as a parody of 90s Pokémon games and advertisements.

Super Gacha Girl Page 1

This page is the introductory page that shows the main character and where she goes to school. The first panel is an aerial view of the school overlaid by the words Prestige Academy and a picture of Penny Akari, the main character. She is a short girl with medium length hair who is wearing a school uniform. In the text Penny is talking about how it's her second year at the school and that her parents struggled to get her a place there.

This is the first page of my new comic Super Gacha Girl, introducing the main character Penny.
