There are a limited number of spaces for NHS clients, you may need to try several dentists to find a space. If you cannot find an NHS dentist, you'll need to pay for a private dentist which will cost more.

Find all dentists within the local area through the NHS 24 website.

NHS treatment

Dental check ups are free but you will have to pay 80% of the costs for treatment. If you are aged between 18 and in full time education then you may be exempt from costs.

There are other exemptions, but unlikely to cover students, details available from your dentist.

How to pay for treatment

Private treatment

Most private dentists have several different options to pay for dental treatment, including monthly payments through a private dental scheme. Contact individual dentists for details.

Emergency dental treatment

The Dental Hospital has an Emergency Department where you can attend from 08:30 - 11:00 and 13:30 -15:00 on a first come, first served basis, but they will not carry out routine treatment. You should arrive as early as you can, and be prepared to wait.
