What is UCAS Clearing?

Our guide to UCAS Clearing will tell you what university Clearing is, how Clearing works, how to make an application, and how to accept your offer

What is university Clearing?

Clearing is the process that universities use to fill vacant spaces on courses.

You can use Clearing to find a course if:

  • you missed the UCAS deadline
  • you no longer wish to go to your Firm choice
  • on results day you find yourself without a university to go to

When does UCAS Clearing open?

UCAS Clearing opens on Friday 5 July 2024

When can I start my Clearing application?

You can start an application once you have your official exam results

When are the official exam results released?

  • International Baccalaureate: Friday 5 July 2024
  • Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers: Tuesday 6 August 2024
  • A levels: Thursday 15 August 2024

How does Clearing work?

  1. Check the relevant vacancy page for you
    1. Scottish vacancies
    2. English, Northern Irish, and Welsh vacancies
    3. International vacancies
  2. Click or tap Apply now next to the course you want to apply to
    1. You will need the following information to complete the application form:
      1. Exam results or relevant qualifications
      2. English language qualification for international applicants
  3. Once you have completed the application form, click or tap Submit

What happens next when you have made a Clearing application?

We will email you within one working hour if your application is successful. 

Our Clearing Team works Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00.

If we have made you an offer and you do not have a UCAS account

We will ask you for some information to set up your UCAS account.

If we have made you an offer and you already have a UCAS account

You will need to log in to UCAS and complete the following:

  • Add your Clearing choice in UCAS Track
    • Only add a Clearing choice once you have permission from us
  • Click or tap Add Clearing choice 
  • fill in the course details by the date we give you

This counts as you definitely accepting the offer.

It will show as an acceptance on your Choices page in Track when we confirm.

Arrange your student finance

Tuition fees are specific to your fee status and course.

Up to £5,000 in scholarships available.

Through our scholarships, you could be eligible for up to £5,000 per year of study.

Book your student accommodation

We guarantee accommodation for those who come to us through Clearing if:

  • you have firmly accepted an offer of study at Dundee for September entry as your first choice
  • you applied for accommodation before Friday 23 August 2024

You must meet both criteria.

Once you receive our offer, we’ll email you with information about how to apply for our accommodation.

All of our rooms are en-suite with superfast wifi and utility bills included.
