About

oliver campbell profile

As a young artist working primarily with oil paints, I find myself deeply inspired by the works of the great painters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Their mastery of light, composition, and technique continues to captivate me, and I strive to incorporate these elements into my own work.

My focus at the moment is on portraiture and group scenes, where I attempt to capture intimate moments from contemporary life. I find that the techniques and compositional choices of the “Old Masters” lend themselves to depicting the moments I want to capture, they evoke a sense of timelessness that transcends the specific details of any given scene.

Simultaneously I am considering current technology, contemporary issues and personalities as I see my work as a bridge between the past and the present. My aim is to challenge viewers to connect with the more significant themes and questions of our time while also striking an emotional chord with the audience through the quality and craftsmanship of my work. I think I can produce truly timeless art that appeals to audiences of all ages by fusing the methods and fashions of the past with the issues and reality of the present.

The Brawl for Power

a large scale painting of a group of politicians, suited up and fighting. The main figure is swinging his fist across the centre of the canvas while others look on, try to interview or cower in fear.

Power, politics, and primal instincts captured in my painting based on a fist-fight in the Ukrainian parliament in 2018 between pro and anti Russia politicians. I see this portrayal of leaders resorting to physical violence to assert dominance as a commentary on the nature of masculinity in our society especially from those in a place of power. (Oil Paint on 90x150cm canvas)

Man with The Virgin Marys

An oil paint portrait of a man wearing a graphic t shirt with two mirrored images of Mary, mother of Jesus on it.

This painting blends traditional religious iconography with contemporary graphic design. The young man wears a bold t-shirt with mirrored images of the Virgin Mary in fiery red and serene blue. Against a dark background, the vivid colours demand attention, provoking contemplation of faith in a changing world. (Oil painting on 70x100cm canvas)

Ascension to Heaven

a painting of Messi winning the 2022 world cup, lifted on team mates shoulders and holding the trophy above his head.

A vibrant oil painting of Messi winning the 2022 World Cup. The title refers to his legendary status in football as a "football god." The painting captures the joy of winning and celebrates Messi's greatness as a player. (Oil paint on 60x110cm canvas)
