Nina Kouklaki

An exploration of fetish is manifested in my work not only because of my attempts to paint the skin latex-like, but also by the presence of inflatable objects. Fetishistic elements were always present, as painting feet has been a main concept of my artistic practice. Painting latex or plastic textures causes satisfaction to me, especially when these textures are squeezed by long sharp plastic nails or a rubber balloon bum, this satisfying tension comes to a climax. 

Being aroused by the idea of popping balloons is the main concept of my last exhibited paintings. The bodies depicted take the form of balloons too. However, in the painting Inflatable Dick, balloon and foot fetish are both present. There is a threatening tension in this painting as the balloon is going to pop and the dick is going to be killed.  

The interpretation of exhibitionism in some of my paintings is effective through the choice of ‘selfie’. The repeating expression of my face manipulates the viewer to feel like they are viewing a show. My manner is manifested in the smooth doll-like plastic legs and the emerging background colour in contrast with the skin.
