While studying Animation at DJCAD I explored a variety of specialisms, from concept art to storyboarding, but always found myself coming back to characters and my interest in 3D. In my final year I decided to focus on two specialisms that would allow me to combine these two passions and settled on 3D character modelling and texturing. As part of our student film I was tasked with designing some of the characters and ensuring that they would translate well into 3D. This prompted me to begin teaching myself the character modelling pipeline in 3rd year so that when the time came to begin creating the characters in 3D I had a good idea of how it was done. As the year progressed so did my skills in industry standard software like Zbrush and Substance Painter, as well as my understanding of how a real production team functions and the massive effort it takes to deliver a polished final film.
