Animation BDes (Hons)

A short film about a mime's performance under the intruding gaze of an ominous and seemingly ever-present audience.

About

Over the past academic year, I have had the opportunity to direct and animate a short film. I initially pitched this film idea because I wanted to visually depict how trapped in my own head I felt at the time, how every action I took felt like a performance. It then seemed the obvious choice for a mime to be the star of my film, small and alone, observed from every angle and only able to communicate through pantomime. Performing for what he perceives to be a very real and engaged audience, only to discover they were never real and simply a projection conceived by his own fears and anxieties.

Animation is what allows me to most clearly express my ideas and feelings. I want to connect to people through my art, I want someone to see something I've made and resonate with it. I also realized that connection is not only found through the final product but also throughout the whole collaborative process. The sharing and fusion of everyone's different ideas and talents is what allows something truly amazing and beautiful to be made.

Looking to the future I would like to work on more 2D films for which I can use my specialisms which are character design and animation!
