About

Profile picture of Hannah Watson

In my practice I research different philosophies, religious practices and cultural artistic style, which I explore using textiles, clay, paints and found sculptural materials. The main motivation behind my practice stems from a shared humanistic drive for understanding. Through my practice I celebrate the beauty of this common search; as it takes you to richly creative places which lead to you understanding the unknown chasm of existence a little better.

My work for the Degree show bring my ideas to the next stage of evolution: it responds to the seriousness and anxiety that spiritual searching can bring. I propose in them, a fantastical realm as the source of creative thinking. The realm I am showing in these works reflects the positive nature of creativity, and act as offerings, windows and vessels to the beings, emotional response and landscape of this imagined world.

By seeing the art process in this way, my practice creates chances for me to enter consciously into a state of gratitude for creative space and become able to exist within a zone of meditation that helps me deal with the anxieties in my own searching.
