Waste of the Future: a modular recycling bin

About

Portrait of Han Buck.

'Waste of the Future" brings modularity to your recycling bin.

You can adjust the recycling bin to the individual needs at your home. The bin consists of two parts that can vary in size. If your household usually produces a lot more plastic waste than paper waste, then you can choose 80 litres for plastic and 20 litres for paper waste.

The modular design not only enables you to adjust it to your individual recycling needs, it also raises awareness of the amount and type of waste in your home. This helps to reduce waste overall and to recycle more efficiently.

The recycling bin is divided up into a few different modular parts and a student is holding the middle part in their hands as if to assemble it. The model is made out of wood and has lines running across each part for an easier grip.

Waste of the Future - modular parts

The recycling bin has two different compartments that. There is an empty plastic water bottle being thrown into the top part and pieces of crumpled up paper into the middle part.

These are the details of the handles of each modular part of the bin. The have three wooden lines running along the triangular shape of the compartment. The handles are cut out circles with different colours behind it. These make it easy for the user to grip the compartment and the different colour contributes to the colour coding of recycling.
