Emily Gordon

Before studying at DJCAD I was adamant that I would never enjoy background design, but as with all of the greatest love stories in life, it snuck up on me and had me fixated! The ability to form tangible worlds through the combination of layouts, backgrounds, and 2D animation is a wonderfully exciting and satisfying process to me. I’ve been so grateful to be able to contribute to a variety of projects this year, developing visual styles, and expanding my base of knowledge. 

The primary focus of my work this year has been my team’s graduate short film, ‘Starcrossing’, where I was responsible for a combination of animation and backgrounds. Through ‘Starcrossing’ and other additional projects I’ve had the opportunity to develop differing environment styles, both in collaboration according to group critique, and individually as a challenge to my creativity. I also strive to create energetic and expressive animation, focusing on pushing expressions and body language in order to capture emotion to the best of my ability. Through volunteering at Move Summit this year and stalking some incredible artists online, I’ve seen enough of this industry to know that I’m excited to be in it, and I can’t wait to keep creating!
