About

Anna Lamb

Natural, durable, and ethical; my approach to design is underpinned by these key values. My knitted designs are created with purpose, considering the impact on the natural world and how design and heritage can be harnessed to communicate a sense of place. This project has allowed me to explore my own Scottish heritage, visually inspired by my childhood holidays in Portsoy, I wanted to create designs that translated the love and connection I have with Scotland. I also developed an understanding of Scotland’s rich and diverse textiles industry which encouraged me to knit with 100% wool, using Scottish spun wool where possible, as I believe it is important to promote and preserve the industries that have sculpted Scotland.

The Scottish spun wool is inlaid into the knitting by hand, a slow and rhythmic process that allowed me to connect with my hands and the physical making process. I also took the time to hand dye all of my inlay yarns, creating organic, gradiated yarns that were all completely unique. Both these elements of my process allowed me to develop a deep personal connection with my craft and solidify my identity as both designer and maker. This form of craft allows me to translate my Scottish identity into knitted samples that represent me while telling a story of place. The final designs aim to translate the Scottish exterior landscape into an interior context, defining a space with dynamic knitted panels that bring warmth and tactility with their shape and form.

I will be selling some of my work at the Degree show shop which will be A4 versions of my knitted samples displayed as wall hangings. Along with this I'm open to commissioning, please get in touch via my email or instagram.

The Textiles Class of 2023 are heading to New Designers this summer which is a tradeshow in London where we can showcase our work to industry professions, this is an amazing opportunity for us, however to reserve our stand alone costs £15,000. We have been fundraising alongside our degree work and have set up a GoFundMe page which can be accessed here: https://gofund.me/a1a030c9, any support for this would be greatly appreciated.
