About

Rebecca Boyle is a designer motivated by the belief that art and design can be an effective tool to enable social change.  Rebecca is specifically interested in how design can be used within public spaces to encourage communication and collective thinking.  Throughout her fourth year Rebecca has focused on creating objects which allow individuals to share political messaging in public spaces as well as with other individuals.

Rebecca’s work is heavily influenced by socially engaged artists such as Ai Weiwei and Keg De Souza who both utilise public space and human interaction to raise awareness of current social and political issues. As well as contemporary socially engaged artists Rebecca is also influenced by the Constructivists and their belief that art and design should reflect current situations and serve a purpose.

These pieces presented are to prompt interactions between the wearer and others as well as the public space they inhabit. Rebecca hopes to continue to develop her practice through further studies moving from jewellery design to a socially engaged practice collaborating with other makers, individuals, and communities.
