Maths Week Scotland 2026

The theme of Maths Week Scotland 2026 is “Maths Matters”. You’re welcome to explore "Maths Trail at Dundee Botanic Garden” throughout the Maths Week Scotland (19-27 September 2026), where you will discover that Maths Matters everywhere you look.
S5 and S6 pupils and their teachers are invited to a free afternoon event at the University of Dundee City Campus on Wednesday 23 September to celebrate Maths Week Scotland 2026. 

The event programme includes opportunities to hear what mathematicians love about maths, find out more about why the maths you study in school is important, learn about maths-related careers, and meet and chat with university maths students. This event also offers interactive hands-on activities, including selected topics from the “Maths Trail”, connecting real-world phenomena with mathematical concepts.

13:00-14:00
Refreshments, Meet & Greet
Try some interactive mathematical activities, meet mathematics teaching staff and students. Light refreshments will be provided (tea, coffee, juice and biscuits).

14:00-14:30
Opening Talk: Why Mathematics Matters
This opening keynote explores how mathematics acts as the foundational blueprint for curious phenomena.

14:30-16:00
Learning activities
Groups rotate between three different interactive hands-on activities, including selected topics from the “Maths Trail”, connecting real-world phenomena with mathematical concepts.
