Understanding the occurrence and concentrations of chemicals in the environment is crucial to manage their use and mitigate their impact on people and the environment. The presented project commissioned by Scotland’s Centre of Expertise for Waters (CREW), focuses on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and two endocrine disrupting substances (17β-estradiol and nonylphenol) on the newly established drinking water watchlist, and develops an approach to assess potential for their presence in Scottish freshwater environment. The presentation will provide an overview of the methods and results and will discuss lessons learned for risk assessing emerging contaminants.
