Senate and Committee members
The primary responsibilities of Senate and a list of current members

The Senate is chaired by the Principal and its membership comprises:
- The Principal
- The Vice-Principals, if any
- Deans of the Schools
- Two members of Staff Council elected by the Council
- The President and all student sabbatical officers of the Students’ Association, having been elected for the purpose by the students of the University. Provided always that the number of student members so elected shall not fall below one tenth of the total membership of the Senatus.
- Such other student representatives as the Court, on the recommendation of the Senatus, may from time to time determine.
- The Students’ Assessors, if any, who shall be appointed in accordance with such procedures, and who shall hold office for such period and on such terms, as may be prescribed by Ordinance.
- A minimum number of twenty-seven Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers who shall be elected in accordance with such procedures, and who shall hold office for such period and on such conditions, as may be prescribed by Ordinance. Provided always that not less than one third of the total number that fall within this category shall be Professors and that not less than one third of that number shall be Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers.
- Such other Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers and officers of the University as the Court, on the recommendation of the Senatus, may from time to time determine and who shall hold office for such period and on such conditions as the Court shall decide.

Internationalisation Committee*

The Internationalisation Committee will be responsible for the leadership of the International Strategy and support Schools and Directorates with local implementation.

The NEU Project Board and CSU Project Board has responsibility for the oversight of the Joint Educational Programme (JEP) with Northeastern University, and Joint Educational Institute (JEI) with Central South University respectively, ensuring its alignment with University and School strategy, on behalf of the Senate International Committee (IC) and the University Executive Group (UEG).

Quality Assurance & Enhancement Committee
Purpose
The principal purpose of the QAEC is to provide leadership and make decisions on all areas that relate to academic quality assurance and enhancement activities across the University.
Remit
- To make decisions (on behalf of Senate) on the approval of new programmes, the reapproval of existing degree programmes, changes to degree programmes (including the withdrawal or suspension), the academic approval and review of collaborative partnerships, consideration of proposals for the validation of educational and research provision from bodies without degree awarding powers, the approval of degree regulations and the approval of any exceptions to University academic policies. The QAEC will also provide oversight of certificated non-credit bearing provision.
- To be responsible for the development, review and revision of the University’s Quality Framework and to ensure that University policies and practices are aligned with national expectations and local priorities. It will provide oversight of the approaches to quality and academic standards within the Schools.
- To have oversight of external examining for the University.
- To have primary responsibility for the development and implementation of University- wide academic policies and regulations, and for providing an appropriate governance framework to support, promote and enhance quality in learning and teaching.
- To have responsibility for the monitoring of student progression, retention and achievement and to develop action plans, policies and procedures to promote improvement in these areas.
- In order to support fulfilment of this remit QAEC delegates the responsibility for decision making as it relates to the University’s research degree programmes to the Postgraduate Research Sub-Committee in the following areas: The approval of research degree programme proposals and their subsequent amendment and withdrawal; accreditations; regulations; policies; and the Research Degrees Code of Practice. In addition, the QAEC delegates responsibility for quality assurance and enhancement activities, such as annual monitoring to the Postgraduate Research Sub-Committee. The administrative functions of research PPRs shall be undertaken by the QAS office with outcomes being reported to the Postgraduate Research Sub- Committee. Postgraduate Research Sub-Committee will provide reports to the QAEC on decisions made and actions taken under this delegated authority and may refer points of clarification or contention to QAEC for decision if required.

Remit
The University Research Committee (URC) is established to provide strategic oversight, monitoring and guidance of research and impact activities at the University of Dundee. Key responsibilities and objectives of the URC include:

- Make recommendations on resource allocation to support the strategies.

- Oversee and review the performance of the Doctoral Academy.

- Stimulate and promote the creation of strategic relationships with academic and policy, nationally and internationally.
- Monitor external influences on research with impact strategy, policy, and practice.
- Consider influences from entities such as Scottish Funding Council, UK Research and Innovation, and international funding bodies and frameworks.
- Oversee and monitor the Universities activities and success in large strategic funding streams for research with impact.

Remit
- To provide institutional leadership and promote best practice on all matters relating to research degrees and research students;
- To consider strategic issues in relation to research degrees and students;
- To provide a forum for the discussion of external policy issues relating to research degrees and students, for instance from the Research Councils or other funding bodies;
- To oversee generic degree regulations for all research degrees;
- To oversee programme approval mechanisms for new research degrees;
- To oversee the content and implementation of the Code of Practice for Supervised Postgraduate Research, including determining institutional mechanisms for monitoring student progression on research degrees;
- To oversee quality assurance arrangements for research degrees including the periodic review of research programmes in individual Schools and/or Colleges;
- To ensure the appropriate training and development of research supervisors.
