Guidance to heads of departments and Schools

As a principle, individuals choose where they stay and how they travel to work. If an individual travels to work by car and is unable to get to work because of the weather or the closure of the Tay Bridge, it is expected that they will make every effort to attend work by making alternative arrangements such as:

  • public transport
  • bus
  • train
  • car-sharing
  • taxi
  • using an alternative route

Guidance to staff

It is essential to contact your immediate Line Manager to let them know if you are going to be late or unable to attend work.

Buses may be running but unable to reach some areas and it is not unreasonable to expect someone to walk to a nearby stop on an open route (depending on weather conditions). To avoid waiting indefinitely on public transport in inclement weather staff have an obligation to find out about the public transport situation and act accordingly.

Individual arrangements would apply to staff with disabilities.
