Main Library heating issue

Our colleagues from Estates and Campus have identified a significant issue with the heating feed to the Main Library. As a result, the heating in the Main Library will need to be turned off for approximately five days while the repairs are carried out. The Main Library will remain open throughout this period, but may experience significantly cooler temperatures than usual.

Estates will ensure that running hot water is available throughout the duration of the work. This repair work is needed to ensure we can provide a comfortable space for your studies.

Repairs to the heating in the Main Library will now start on Monday 9 - Friday 13 February.

 We will continue to offer all Library services as usual.

There are also study spaces available during the day in the following locations:

• Scrymgeour building
• DJCAD Library
• Global Room

• Running hot water will still be available during the repair period.
• The 1st and 2nd floors have kitchen facilities where you can make hot drinks.
• Blankets are available from the ground floor.

Can't the repair work be postponed for a quieter time?

• Delaying any repair work may cause additional damage and impact other areas of the University.

Will heaters be provided? 

• No. Adding additional electrical heaters would overstretch the electrical capacity and cause the power to trip in the Main Library.

What are my options?

• You can continue to use the Main Library to study, but wear additional layers as it will be cooler than usual.
• You can study in other spaces during the day in the following locations:
• Scrymgeour building
• DJCAD Library
• Global Room
