You will graduate with MSc Social Work, which is a professional social work qualification.

This will allow you to apply to the SSSC to be registered as a qualified social worker and to apply for employment.

You can do this across a range of social work roles in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors, and also in a range of allied professions. Employment prospects for social workers are currently very good. Almost all of our students move into employment soon after graduating.

You will be equipped to work as an accountable, autonomous professional. You will be skilled to work in partnership with individuals, families, groups, organisations and communities.

Social workers can also use their social work qualification in other social service roles. These may also need you to be registered with the SSSC.

Additionally, throughout the course, you will have developed a range of highly transferable skills such as:

  • communication
  • project management

These can be applied to roles across social care and in other fields.

15 months after graduating, 94% of our graduates are in employment or further study

“I got my first job as an agency worker even before my graduation ceremony! I worked as a Council social worker in Edinburgh city council, within a frontline team that supports adults in the community. I also had a number of offers to get involved in other social work fields, such as charity work, children and families. I got offered a permanent contract with CEC within the first 6 months. I left my statutory work around a year ago and came back to Greece. I am now working as a Mental Health counsellor alongside two experienced therapists, and getting trained in Narrative Therapy approach. My Dundee degree gave me a lot of work experience through placements which gave me a lot of self-confidence and sense of professionalism. The University’s reputation opened doors to my career, which I am grateful for.”
