The University has moral, legal and practical requirements to conduct its research responsibly. This includes compliance with Government, funder and institutional regulatory requirements. All research must be conducted with integrity, e.g. as laid in The Concordat to Support Research Integrity.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced research governance professional, ideally with some expertise in export control legislation, as a Research Governance Officer covering elements of governance including trusted research, compliance and research integrity.

The Research Governance Manager will be the Research & Innovation Operations (RIO) expert on Research Integrity, Trusted Research, export controls, the Nagoya Protocol and the National Security and Investment Act 2021. In addition to working across academic Faculties, the postholder will build productive working relationships with professional services colleagues in other areas of RIO, such as research development, culture and environment and contracts, and in key areas such as Legal, Finance, Global Partnerships, Information Governance, and Digital and Technology Services.

Your priorities will include:

• Provide in-depth specialist professional expertise and support for Trusted Research, export controls, the Nagoya Protocol and other regulatory, due diligence and security-related issues in relation to responsible and international research to individual academic staff, members of the University Executive Group, Faculty VPs, Associate VPs for Research & Innovation and professional services staff across all Faculties, directorates and disciplines.
• Working closely with Legal, play a lead role in the preparation and submission of export control licence

applications, develop processes to monitor and manage active licences, and advise on the submission of notifications within the scope of the National Security Investment Act.

• Act as the lead institutional contact for, and build productive working relationships with, the Research

Collaboration Advice Team (RCAT), Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU), the Higher Education Export Control Association (HEECA) and other relevant external bodies.

• Highly skilled communicator across audiences, with capacity to create and effectively communicate strategies that will be well understood by a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Represent the team at internal and external meetings and report and present on specialist/technical issues.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to other members of Research and Innovation Services and the wider community.
