This role is based in Dundee, UK, with overseas working in China forming a core part of the role.
We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Academic Lead for our Wuhan BA Architectural Studies to join the Architecture & Urban Planning team.
In this role you will support our BA(Hons) Architectural Studies programme as part of our flying faculty which teaches in Wuhan, China, and in Dundee. Your experience in practice and teaching will enable you to lead key programme activities, support colleagues and students, and develop and deliver lectures and studio teaching. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to an innovative teaching partnership, leading the development of architectural education to prepare students for their design careers.

As Deputy Academic Lead, you will play an important role in supporting colleagues and students in Wuhan and Dundee, ensuring a high-quality education and student experience to prepare students for a changing professional context. You will work closely with the Academic Lead and our partners in China, contributing to diversification and growth of the programme to build on our strong international relationship and support the University's financial sustainability. Travel to China and teaching in Wuhan is a core aspect of this role. The role will involve two trips to China each year, typically lasting two to four weeks. The timing and duration of travel will be determined by operational and business needs and communicated as far in advance as reasonably practicable.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Working with the Academic Lead to support course planning and organisation
- Teaching studio and lecturing in Wuhan for 4-8 weeks a year
- Reviewing, developing, delivering and assessing coursework to meet quality standards
- Representing the programme at meetings and committees
- Working with the MArch Year 4 Lead in Dundee to support pastoral care and studio integration
- Teaching studio and lecturing in MArch Year 4 in Dundee
Who We're Looking For
Essential
- Strong design, studio teaching and leading experience
- Strong organisational and personal communication skills
- Flexibility to work in two different educational systems
- Willingness to travel to China
- A post-graduate degree in Architecture
- A professional qualific.ation in architecture (RIBA or equivalent)
