Part-time, Fixed Term Contract

Purpose of the Role

This is a Part-Time (0.7 FTE), fixed term post (24 months) attached to a Tenovus Scotland funded project. You will provide specialised technical and research support for a lab-based research project. The post-holder will lead the operational delivery of the project's experimental phase, carrying out advanced laboratory procedures in stem cell biology, managing the associated data to a high standard and preparing the manuscript for publications.

We are one of the UK's leading universities, internationally recognised for our expertise across a range of disciplines and research breakthroughs in multiple areas, including science, medicine and engineering, amongst many others. Our purpose is to transform lives, locally and globally, which we do as a community of staff (Professional Services and academic faculties), students and alumni. Professional Services directorates are key to delivering the University strategy and driving change across the University.

This role is based on the city campus.

Your priorities will include:

  1. Lead the experimental delivery of a lab-based research project focused on developing osteochondral organoid models using advanced stem cell culture techniques.
  2. Perform specialist laboratory procedures, including stem cell culture, maintenance, cryopreservation, and flow cytometry-based characterisation of stem cell populations.
  3. Manage and analyse research data, maintain accurate laboratory records, and prepare technical reports to support project objectives and dissemination activities.
  4. Drive research outputs, including manuscript preparation, submission to peer-reviewed journals, and responding to reviewer comments.
  5. Coordinate project operations and stakeholder engagement, working closely with clinicians, technical staff, suppliers, and collaborators to ensure efficient project delivery and compliance with quality and safety standards.

Who we're looking for

    • Someone with a PhD in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Regenerative Medicine, or a related discipline.
    • Extensive hands-on experience in stem cell culture and organoid development.
    • Track record of publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
