If you're thinking about studying at the University of Dundee there are lots of reasons why you should! Like many universities in the UK, we are facing financial difficulties - but this shouldn't impact the majority of the courses we offer or the great student experience we're known for.
Is the University of Dundee a good place to study?
Yes, according to many students, the University of Dundee is a great choice for a range of subjects. Students enjoy lots of aspects of student life, including teaching on their courses and extracurricular activities like sports and societies.
Dundee has also been named one of the best places in the UK - and the best in Scotland - for under 35s to live in (The Times, 2026). This is because Dundee is a great student city. Compact, easy to navigate, and affordable, it also has a great mix of urban life alongside green spaces, beaches, and a picturesque riverfront.
Our students also ranked us highly in the National Student Survey – the questionnaire for final-year university students – with overall satisfaction of 84.8%.

Is the University of Dundee going to close?
There are no plans to close the University of Dundee. The University is currently benefiting from financial support from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) which is the organisation that awards funding to universities across Scotland.
We're committed to ensuring any changes we make do not have a negative effect on student experience. We're focused on delivering a high-quality student experience, both inside and outside the classroom, as evidenced by our ranking as Scottish University of the Year (Daily Mail University Guide 2025).
Can I still apply to the University of Dundee?
Yes, applications for undergraduate courses are open till 30 June 2026. After that, Clearing will open – Clearing is the process used by universities to fill any additional spaces they may have on courses. We'd recommend applying as early as you can – that way we can process your application and let you know the outcome sooner.
The University – like many other universities in the UK – is having to address financial challenges. Reasons for this include:
- a substantial drop in international student recruitment due to changes to UK immigration policy
- ongoing structural underfunding of higher education
- cost increases
We are working with experts from across the higher education sector and the Scottish Government to futureproof our university and ensure it welcomes students for years to come.
