We invite you to the Art, Design & Architecture Undergraduate Open Day at the University of Dundee on Friday 30 October 2020 from 09:30 - 15:00 and Saturday 31 October 2020 from 09:30 - 15:00
Our Art, Design & Architecture Explore Days give you the chance to see the facilities and hear, first hand, what Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, our Architecture programmes, and the University of Dundee have to offer.
Meet with current students and members of staff, take a walk around our friendly campus in the heart of the city and experience our world-class facilities.
Come on your own, with parents, or as part of a school party. Everyone is welcome to attend including school students, college of further education students, adult returners, parents, teachers and careers advisers.
During your visit, there will be:
- Subject specific presentations
- Demonstrations in departments
- Tours of the campus and tours of the Art School
- Finance Information

Student Ambassadors will be on hand to guide visitors.
There will be two Architecture talks that take place on the day.
Thinking about studying Architecture? Find out more about the structure of the Architecture programme with the opportunity to ask questions followed by a tour of the facilities.
Art & Design General Foundation presentations will take place throughout the day.
We are the only university in Scotland to offer an Art & Design General Foundation first-year entry course. Find out how the course can help you discover who you are as an artist, the types of projects you will work on, progressing into second year and our application process.
The Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration presentations will take place throughout the day.
Explore the programme structure/content and how students work together to develop an understanding of wider issues relating to Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration.
Our Contemporary Art Practice programme comprises Fine Art and Art & Philosophy. Learn about the cross-disciplinary and collaborative nature of the programme and how students enjoy the freedom to experiment and engage with a wide variety of art practises.
Our Design and Craft programme comprises Jewellery & Metal Design and Textile Design. You will get an overview of the programme structure/content and how students use traditional techniques alongside new technologies in a creative and stimulating learning environment.
Our Social Digital programme comprises Digital Interaction Design, Interior & Environmental Design and Product Design. Receive an introduction to the structure/content of each course and learn how students have the opportunity to work together within shared modules to develop interesting and exciting interdisciplinary projects.
There will be a SAAS (Student Awards Agency for Scotland) information stand on level 5, Matthew Building.
Study Abroad is available to our undergraduate students by way of our international and Erasmus+ exchange programmes. Where and when you go depends on which degree you take.

As well as the chance to meet staff from the subject areas you are interested in we have a range of talks, tours and workshops covering all aspects of your time in Dundee to enjoy.
We highly recommend you take part in a tour of our facilities and studios. Our tours are led by current students who can provide first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be a student at the University of Dundee.
The Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will explore the important role art and design plays in the global economy and why Dundee is the place to be for aspiring artists and designers. Plus, they will introduce you to studying at the University of Dundee, alumni success stories and employability prospects for graduates.
Times: every hour from 10:00 until 15:00.
Tours of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will set off from level 5, Matthew Building. This tour also incorporates a visit to the portfolio exhibition.
The tours will last approximately 1 hour.
Studio Visits will leave from level 5, Matthew Building, the following Studio Visits will be available:
- Communication Design - Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration
- Contemporary Art Practice – Art & Humanities and Fine Art
- Design & Craft – Jewellery & Metal Design and Textile Design
- Social Digital – Digital Interaction Design, Interior & Environmental Design and Product Design
Tours of the facilities in Architecture will set off from level 5, Matthew Building after each Architecture talk.
Times: every half an hour from 10:00 until 15:00.
On this tour you will get to see the fantastic facilities available to University of Dundee students, including the main library, the Institute of Sport and Exercise and the Students' Union among other highlights.
The tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
General Foundation Portfolio Exhibition, Matthew Building
Your portfolio is an important part of your application to Art & Design disciplines at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. There is no prescriptive 'formula' to submitting a successful portfolio, however, this exhibition will provide an insight into how recent successful applicants have presented their work to us.
Please collect your welcome pack at our Registration Point in Matthew Building foyer. Please remember to bring your Eventbrite confirmation (you can either take a paper copy or have it available to scan on a smartphone).
Tours of the campus will be available throughout the day, leaving from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design reception, every 30 minutes between 10:00 and 15:00. Student Ambassadors will take you round our campus and facilities and will give you an overview of student life. On this tour you will get to see the fantastic facilities available to University of Dundee students including the main library, the gym and the Students’ Union among other highlights. Campus tours last approximately 45 minutes.
Tours of the building will be available throughout the day, leaving from level 5 of the Matthew Building, every 30 minutes between 10:00 and 15:00. Current students will take you round the building and will give you an overview of student life. Building tours last approximately 1 hour.
