The tuition fee you pay will vary depending on your fee status and your course. The fee for each course can be found on the individual course pages.
Your fee status is generally linked to your current country of residence, however not all cases are this straightforward. We use the information you provide on your course application to calculate your fee status and you will receive confirmation of this in writing prior to receiving your offer. If you wish to query your fee status you must do so at this point, and before you receive your offer letter, as once you have accepted your offer, you cannot change your fee status. You can take a look at our Recruitment and Admissions Policy for further guidance.
The four fee status categories are Scottish, Rest of UK, EU and Overseas.
The information below is for the Overseas fee status only, and you should refer to the undergraduate and postgraduate information for all fee statuses. Please remember that your fee status will be determined by us using the information you provide on your application.
Overseas (non-EU) student
"My home is NOT in Scotland and I am a national from outside the EU."
If the above statement applies to you then you will probably be classified as an Overseas student for fee purposes. You will pay the Overseas student tuition fee rates as detailed on each specific course page under Fees and Funding.
Additional cost of Clinical Teaching (ACT) Levy
From 2016 onwards, the Scottish Government implemented a mandatory national levy to cover the costs of NHS teaching for overseas students. This applies to Medical Students, however individual course pages will detail courses which this charge applies to.
All Scottish Universities are required to charge this additional cost, which is collected by the University in addition to your tuition fee and then passed on to NHS Education Scotland.
The tuition fee displayed on the course page is the tuition fee only and does not include the charge, so this should be considered as an additional.
The charge is £10,000 per year, so from September 2017 onwards you are required to pay this in addition to your fees.
We have a range of scholarships for international applicants which will support payment of your tuition fees. You can find out more about what is on offer on our International Scholarships page.
