Choosing the right university is a crucial step in shaping your future career, and I can confidently say that Dundee offers you an exceptional experience. Our innovative curriculum gives you hands-on clinical practice from day one. Dundee offers the course that truly sets you up for success as a future dentist. If you're looking for a well-integrated, practical, forward-thinking dental education, here are some reasons why Dundee stands out.

Clinical opportunities from day one

One of the biggest highlights of Dundee’s dental course is the early clinical experience. At Dundee you begin working on practical and clinical skills from the start of your very first year, this sets us apart from other Dental Schools. Clinical exposure enables you to apply your new theoretical knowledge immediately to clinical practice and reinforces your understanding of each subject area. Throughout the years, your clinical time increases and by the time you reach fifth year, your experience becomes almost entirely focused on clinical work. This structure allows you to focus on patient care and build your solid skills before entering the professional world.

Innovative 4D Curriculum

Early clinical practice is possible due to the new ‘4D’ Curriculum implemented by the University. Our curriculum emphasises practical learning utilising a spiral teaching model to build on knowledge you already possess. This enables key concepts to be revisited and expanded upon throughout your course. This continuous build of knowledge will feel natural and progressive.

Using case-based learning and self-guided study techniques will encourage you to build skills which you will need beyond dental school.  Rather than passively absorbing information you are encouraged to actively solve real-world dental scenarios, developing critical thinking skills, and learning to manage your own learning process – just like we do in our career as dentists.

Wide teaching methods

At the University of Dundee, the teaching uses a variety of approaches. There are traditional lectures complemented by interactive activities. Specialist teaching in anatomy means that Dundee is one of the few universities that offers both dissections and prosections to enable you to build solid foundations for the rest of your course. Anatomy facilities are uniquely utilised for clinical skills training in later years as well. This is an incredible opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy by working directly with cadavers. Along with this, clinical cases are studied through team-based learning activities. You will work within your year group to learn together. Activities such as devising treatment plans benefits critical thinking and promotes teamworking. On clinics you will work in teams with more experienced students benefitting from their knowledge to ensure confidence and safety as you start your clinical journey.

Supportive learning environment

At Dundee, your learning journey is significantly enhanced by the exceptional lecturing staff and clinicians. The lecturers and clinicians are not only experts in their field but are genuinely invested in your success. From offering personalised feedback on your clinical work to being available for one-on-one teaching, the staff go beyond to ensure you’re equipped with the knowledge and skills to excel.

The perfect start to a successful career

Choosing to study Dentistry at the University of Dundee means choosing a course that sets you apart.
