Thinking of studying Education at Dundee?
We’re here on campus today to ask our students all about their course and what they like best, so let’s get started.
So what is a typical day for an Education student?
When you’re in uni, our days can be split up into lectures or workshops.
A lecture is more theory-based, from the why to the how, and your workshops are more hands-on, like how you would be teaching.
So we actually get to do science lessons, engineering lessons.
We even got to build a bridge out of spaghetti to do engineering. It was really good fun.
Our other type of day is a placement day. So you’re kind of in school, as soon as the teacher gets there, you’re there.
You get to experience how to teach art, music, P.E., and science — different practical skills like that.
Then when it comes to placement, it’s more that you’re teaching, planning lessons, you’re taking over the class.
We get placement in first year. A lot of Scottish universities don’t give you that opportunity, so I think that’s really rich and allows you to get a head start.
Another reason is just the culture of Dundee. It’s amazing that you can take the kids anywhere, like the observatory.
You can take them down to the Discovery. There’s just so much history within Dundee you can take into your lessons, which I think is really important.
Dundee is a very nice place, everything is close by.
And on the course, the lectures are brilliant. They’re always very supportive.
I just feel like you get placement every year, which is the most important part of learning how to be a teacher.
And you’re also getting the theory and the practical base from the university.
That was actually so interesting.
I know, right? I feel like Dundee is the best place to study Education.
