The Comics Studies team was delighted to welcome back DeeCon after a two-year absence. This event celebrates anime, videogames, comics, and cosplay and is run by animation students in conjunction with DUSA.

The Comics team has always been part of DeeCon and this year participated by giving talks and having a table in Bonar Hall. This was an opportunity to showcase our comics, many of them produced in partnership with students and graduates of the Masters in Comics and Graphic Novels, and to launch two new comics, Pandemic Tales and R.U.R.

Professor Christopher Murray gave a talk on scriptwriting for comics and conics as a mode of creative practice research, and PhD student Viktor Gong presented on comics and concept art.

Helping at the table were comics masters graduates Dr Megan Sinclair and Reece Robertson.

“DeeCon was a blast! Great to see the anime, gaming and comics fans out in force, and the cosplay, which is always such a huge part of DeeCon, was so much fun! It was a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. We gave away lots of public information comics and spoke to lots of people about Comics Studies at the University of Dundee. A big thank you to all the organisers! ”
