Academics from some of the world’s leading universities are coming to the University of Dundee as part of a major global initiative.

Experts from Australia, Canada, Germany, Malaysia and the United States will collaborate with counterparts from Dundee as part of the Institute for Social Sciences Research (ISSR) Global Scholars programme.

The quintet will spend several weeks at the University, collaborating with Dundee academics on research projects across geography, law and healthcare.

Scholars will begin to arrive next month and will spend up to five weeks at the University. Each will be paired with a Dundee academic to promote collaboration on their areas of expertise.

Professor Volker Roeben, ISSR Co-Director at Dundee, said, “We are an institution with a global outlook and it is hugely beneficial for us to work with these esteemed international colleagues.

“The Global Scholars initiative helps to promote our reputation as a centre for world-class interdisciplinary research, which benefits both University staff and students.

“Last year’s inaugural Global Scholars programme was highly successful and has served to enrichen our research environment. We have an exciting group of academics joining us this year and I look forward to welcoming them to Dundee.”

This year’s academics are:

  • Professor Angela Dawson, University of Technology Sydney, Australia
  • Professor Kasturi Kanniah, Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia
  • Professor Madeline Kass, University of Seattle, USA
  • Dr Son Truong, School of Health and Human Performance, Canada
  • Dr Kristi Winters, Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Germany

It is the second time that Dundee has invited international academics to campus as part of the Global Scholars initiative, a collaboration between the University’s Schools of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, Business, and Nursing and Health Sciences.
