Statement on Ukraine

Published on 4 March 2022

The University of Dundee unequivocally condemns the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and calls for a peaceful solution that avoids further bloodshed and tragedy.

The situation in Ukraine has created great anxiety for many, particularly those in our community from Ukraine but also those from Russia and other neighbouring countries, and those whose families and friends may be affected.

The University of Dundee has a long tradition of welcoming students and staff from around the world and promoting civilised and supportive dialogue. It is in these times that our community can come to the fore in offering support. We have messaged all our staff and students highlighting the support that is available through both the University and DUSA (Dundee University Students Association), and specifically contacted those from the countries most immediately affected.

We are committing additional funding through our humanitarian scholarship scheme to support those in need from Ukraine. We support Universities Scotland in working with the Scottish Government to ensure that student hardship funding can support Ukrainian nationals and are working with other Scottish universities to investigate possible transfer opportunities.

We are actively reviewing our investment portfolio and other activities and will take appropriate action.

We will continue to consider what additional action we can take and to support our community.
