Medical Research Scotland Funding success for summer students

The Schools of Life Sciences and Medicine are delighted to host eight of our undergraduate students who are undertaking Medical Research Scotland funded vacation scholarships with researchers in the Schools.
About vacation scholarships
These scholarships have the additional challenge of requiring the PI and student to apply for funding together.
The applications include a project proposal and a statement about what the student hopes to gain from the experience. The Scholarship is worth £2000 in stipend payments to the students and will allow the students to work alongside university scientists in diverse areas such as computer biology, drug discovery and molecular biology that underpins Parkinson’s disease.
Prof. Anton Gartner, academic lead for the SLS Summer School said, "It is great to see our students doing so well. Winning these Scholarships is a big achievement, provides tremendous support for our Summer School and helps to build the confidence of our new generation of scientists. A big thank you also to the PIs that helped to facilitate this success."
The successful applicants are:
- Hannah Smith, 3rd year student who is working in Professor Angus Lamond’s lab in GRE
- Ermione Markantoni, 3rd year student who is working in the labs of Professor Rory McCrimmon and Dr Alison McNeilly in the School of Medicine
- Metka Gorkic, 3rd year student who is working in Professor Dario Alessi’s lab in MRCPPU
- Daniel Saarela, 3rd year student who is working in Professor Miratul Muqit’s lab in MRCPPU
- Findlay Munro, 3rd year student who is working in Dr Constance Alabert’s lab in GRE
- Kexin See is working in Professor Mark Field’s lab in BCDD
- Lizzie Marriott, 2nd year student who is working in Professor Sir Mike Ferguson’s lab in BCDD
- Oliwia Hajek, 2nd year student who is working in Professor Sir Philip Cohen’s lab in MRCPPU
