Celebrating winners of the inaugural Dundee Difference Awards

The Dundee Difference Awards are open for nomination to everyone across the University and are judged by a diverse panel of staff from different job categories, grades and areas of the University. 

The panel made 22 awards to the first cohort of winners, covering Outstanding Individual Contribution, Outstanding Team of the Year, Outstanding Support, Exceptional Service, Collaboration, Positive Impact, Inclusivity Champion, Social Impact and Inspiring Colleague. 

Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, congratulated all of the winners and presented their awards in a special ceremony in the Bonar Hall. 

Professor Gillespie said, “Throughout all of the submissions made it was very encouraging to see the respect and admiration shared for the work of many across our University community. I was glad to be able to join the celebrations and express my own pride in the achievements of so many talented and inspiring colleagues across our University.” 

The winners were: 

Outstanding Contribution – Morag Martin (RIS)

Outstanding Team of the Year – Biological Services, Careers Service, Postgraduate Admissions Team 

Outstanding Support – Libby Findlay (HSSL), Stuart McFarlane (Student Services), Emma Millar (People), Yingzi Ouyang (Science and Engineering)

Exceptional Service – John Townsley (Student Services), Susan Young (Finance), Christmas Eve 2022 flood team (Estates, Campus Services and Life Sciences)

Collaboration Award – Ali Floyd (Life Sciences) 

Positive Impact – Kate Ward (Science and Engineering, Alleviate Hub (Medicine) 

Inclusivity Champion – Evie Fioratou and Li Kang (Medicine), Usha Mani (Student Services), Yvonne Wedekind (Medicine) 

Social Impact – Hazel Ednie (Student Services), Shabnam Wasim (RIS)

Inspiring Colleague – Michael Latto (Medicine), Roddy Mathieson (DJCAD), Sharon Tonner-Saunders (HSSL)
