Introduction to R (RStudio) Programming Short Course
An online course produced by the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science
R is a statistical software and programming language. It allows users to perform statistical analysis, create functions, and visualise data.
R software is available for free. It runs on various operating systems, including Windows, UNIX, and MacOS. RStudio is an integrated development environment (IDE). It provides a more user-friendly interface for using R.
This course will be of value to anyone with an interest in coding, programming, statistics and visualising data.
Introduction to R (RStudio) Programming, is a four-week course covering The Basics and Data Visualisation in R. You do not have to work in the field of forensic science to take this course however some examples may use some forensic terminology.
This is a Virtual Instructor-Led course and runs for 4 weeks.
Week one will focus on the basics of R programming. It will consist of four online sessions. These will include a Welcome session which lasts 1 hour. This is then followed by three tutor-led two-hour sessions. There will be an exercise submission at the end of each day.
Week two will explore data visualisation over three, two-hour sessions. There will be a daily exercise for each of these sessions.
There will be a further two, one-hour drop-in sessions. On week four you will submit an online exercise as your final assessment. This will be written in R Script and will cover the basics and data visualisation.
We recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for an optimal browsing experience.
This course takes four weeks to complete and will require around 15 – 25 hours to complete. Sessions are limited to 20 learners so book now to avoid disappointment.
