Four University of Dundee research projects have been named recipients of funding awards from the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

Studies from the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business, and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences are among those to be supported as part of the RSE’s Research Awards Programme.

The initiative aims to support Scotland’s research sector by nurturing promising talent, stimulating research in Scotland, and promoting international collaboration. In total, 92 projects from across Scotland are being supported by the £856,000 fund.

One of the Dundee projects will combine machine learning and weather data to determine how climate change will impact Scotland’s renewable energy resources. Looking ahead to 2080, the project, led by Dr Paula Stella Teixeira from Dundee’s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business, could assist energy companies, policymakers, and communities in developing approaches to creating and managing green energy in potentially volatile environments.

Other Dundee recipients of RSE Research Awards are:

  • Dr Yujia Huang (DJCAD): Creative strengths - Exploring strength-based pathways to design entrepreneurship in the age of AI
  • Dr Amrita Ahluwalia-McMeddes (Arts and Social Sciences): Misrecognising motherhood - A mixed-methods approach to understanding identity misrecognition in the transition to motherhood
  • Professor Chao-Yi Tai, National Central University, Taiwan visiting Professor Amin Abdolvand (Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business).

RSE Vice President, Research, Professor Anne Anderson OBE FRSE, said, “The RSE’s Research Awards Programme plays a crucial role in supporting and strengthening Scotland’s vibrant research community.

“I am confident that the recipients of these prestigious RSE awards will advance knowledge and deliver meaningful benefits for Scottish society. On behalf of the Society, I warmly congratulate these outstanding researchers and their international partners, and I look forward to seeing the impact of their work.”
