Groundbreaking work in the fields of healthcare and engineering have been nominated for prizes ahead of next month’s ceremony, which recognise exceptional collaborations that deliver economic, environmental and social benefits for Scotland.

Civil engineering experts from our the University’s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business have been nominated in the Making an Environmental Difference category for their work to cut emissions from the construction industry.

Working with Rock Solid Processing Ltd, the collaboration has identified ways to create and manufacture aggregates from Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregates (IBAA) to a construction-grade material, paving the way for significantly reduced carbon footprints from new construction projects.

Additionally, a groundbreaking project to examine the potential for Artificial Intelligence to transform care for heart failure patients has been nominated in the Trailblazing AI Collaboration category.

Dr Ify Mordi from the University’s Faculty of Health has worked with Red Star AI to identify alternative treatment plans for patients who may currently be on outdated or less effective treatment plans.

Utilising AI allows for the development of tailored treatment plans for each patient, ensuring individuals receive optimised treatment with the potential to improve their quality of life.

Now in its 11th year, the Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards shine a spotlight on innovative partnerships between business, the third sector, the public sector and academia.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Stirling on Thursday 19 March.
