Secondary Education with Supported Induction Route (Chemistry) PGCE
School of Education and Social Work
Receive financial support to qualify as a secondary school chemistry teacher, while carrying out a placement in one school throughout the whole year
Dundee City Campus
Our PGCE qualification helps you develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding required to teach chemistry in Scottish secondary schools.
This course offers financial support of more than £22,500 (gross) over the duration of the course. Running from January to January each year, it combines the first two steps of your career as a teacher - the Initial Teacher Education programme and the Teacher Induction Scheme.
You will have more on-campus face-to-face time, and more tutor-directed learning tasks, than in our traditional Secondary Education PGDE course. This gives you the opportunity to achieve the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) Standard for Full Registration in one calendar year.
Learning and teaching in one school across the school year, you will understand how your enthusiasm and creativity, and your contribution in the classroom and school, can make a difference to young people's learning and lives.
You will establish and build on your knowledge of curricular and professional aspects of the secondary sector, and learn your responsibilities regarding pupil health, well-being, literacy, and numeracy skills.
To study on this course you must be eligible to join the GTCS Teaching Induction Scheme.
By introducing new routes into teaching such as this, we are helping to meet Scotland's growing demand for secondary teachers of STEM subjects.
